Year 5 Course

Our courses are geared towards success

The Year 5 11+ Course is designed for children planning to sit secondary school entrance exams. Children will be prepared for various types of exams. We achieve this by boosting their knowledge and honing their exam technique.

This course runs for 3 terms from September to July . Children have two lessons per week which totals 3hours. Each Session will last 1hour 30mins. This course is designed for Year 5 children preparing for secondary school entrance exams.

Empowered by our unique exam preparation

The children will be taught and guided by expert tutors to enhance there knowledge and exam techniques in various areas. The course is focused on Maths, English, Verbal and non-verbal reasoning.  Additionally, children's vocabulary and spelling will be honed through various short exercises, brain training and puzzles every week. These tasks help enhance their reasoning ability which is vital for most selective school exams. We extend their general knowledge to boost their overall confidence. Our children are one of the most prepared because of our successful approach and experience. We collect the best and most rigorous materials to ensure that they cover  whatever skills they need to achieve success in the 11+, but also to thrive in the senior school.

Support for parents

We support parents throughout the course by listening to any concerns they may have, giving them regular feedbacks and advice in ways to support their children further.  Some of our pupils attend this 11+ course purely to enhance  their Maths and English at school. Places are limited to ensure individual attention is given to each child within the small group and to encourage a friendly competition. All materials for class and homework are provided.

The 11+ exam

The 11 Plus is an exam taken by many students in year 6 of primary school to enterinto grammar and independent schools. The 11 Plus exam was once used throughout the United Kingdom, but they are no longer mandatory. However, some local authorities have kept some or all of their grammar schools and today, in England, there are still over 160 grammar schools.

There is no standard national 11 Plus exam, and each school, will set its own exam, and each will vary in style and content. The children are tested in 4 key areas: Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.  Our tuition covers all of these areas in depth. The regular testing helps us identify any weaknesses which enables us to reinforce those areas sooner than later. That way, we can ensure the children are making good progress.

It is important to note that, the 11 Plus exams can only be taken once. There is no provision for resitting tests if the results are disappointing.  Whereas the GCSE and A Level exams can be taken again and again if necessary, the 11 Plus is a ‘once only’ opportunity.

The assessment will comprise English, math, verbal and non-verbal reasoning and may be online, written or a combination of both. Verbal and non-verbal reasoning is not taught in state primary schools but may be taught in independent preparatory schools. For successful candidates, they will be invited to a second round of exams (school dependent) and an interview.

The assessment will cover the KS2 curriculum with elements of KS3. Students hoping to be successful should be working at ‘greater depth’ in their current year group.

There are two main exam boards for the 11+ assessment - CEM and GL.
